Prof Eric Papas

H. Barry Collin Medal Recipient

Eric Papas is Emeritus Professor in the School of Optometry and Vision Science, Faculty of Medicine & Health, University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia. Holding degrees in physics and optometry, he has spent much of his career in research related to the ocular surface and contact lenses, including periods working in clinical practice, industry and academia. Formerly Executive Director of Research & Development at the Brien Holden Vision Institute and Vision CRC, he is a co-inventor of silicone hydrogels and an internationally known educator and lecturer at scientific and professional conferences. Selected by Contact Lens Spectrum as one of the 30 most influential people in the contact lens field, his contribution to research has been recognized by the Max Schapero Award from the American Academy of Optometry, Section on Cornea, Contact Lenses & Refractive Technologies, the Charles F. Prentice Medal from the American Academy of Optometry, the British Contact Lens Association Medal and now the H. Barry Collin Research Medal.
