Optometry Australia are working to ensure the program is quality assured. Once the program is finalised we will be able to provide further details on accreditation. Please carefully read the below information to ensure that you have correctly and accurately followed the instructions relevant to you.

The certifications will include CPD (Australia and New Zealand).


CPD REQUIREMENTS

The registration period and its associated CPD cycle runs from 1 December to 30 November.


To retain registration as an optometrist, the following requirements apply:

  • You must complete a minimum of 20 hours of CPD activities within each registration period (that is: from 1 December to 30 November).

  • If you are therapeutically endorsed, you will be required to complete a minimum of 30 hours of CPD within each registration period, with at least 10 of those hours relating to a scheduled medicines endorsement.

  • A minimum of 5 hours of the CPD completed must be interactive (see below).

  • A maximum of 5 hours of non-clinical/non-scientific content can contribute to your annual total.

  • You must develop and maintain a CPD portfolio (inclusive of a Learning Plan), which identifies your professional learning needs and the CPD activities undertaken to address them. The CPD portfolio will include a reflection on each CPD activity, outlining what has been learned and how it relates to your professional learning needs.

  • You must keep evidence of all CPD activities undertaken and completed for a period of five (5) years.

  • You must complete cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training every three (3) years.

CPD HOURS

How can I obtain the maximum amount of CPD Hours available at Optometry Clinical Conference?

  • Answer: Over the two days of the Optometry Clinical Conference, optometrists can earn up to 14 CPD hours (5Ti and 1i) including assessment.

Will Optometry Clinical Conference include ‘interactive’ hours? 

  • Answer: Yes, Optometry Clinical Conference is an inperson event and, both interactive and Therapeutic CPD hours are planned across the 2 days.

Will my attendance be automatically uploaded into my Institute of Excellence CPD Portfolio (Learning Plan)?

  • Optometry Australia members: Optometry Australia will automatically upload the presentations that you attended into your Learning Plan, provided you Self-Check in to each session via EliteCPD on the day. Details for EliteCPD are highlighted under the POST ASSESSMENT AND SELF CHECK-IN heading below.

    All other delegates: You will be provided a copy of your attendance certificate as proof of participating in the CPD program, provided you Self-Check in to each session via Elite CPD on the day.


MY CPD PORTFOLIO

How do I complete my CPD Portfolio?

Answer: Prior to undertaking CPD activities, you should identify and plan your own learning goals and the type of CPD activities to undertake in order to meet these goals. To set up your CPD Portfolio:

  1. Go to www.optometry.org.au

  2. Login to the Member Portal using your member number and password

  3. Click on My CPD Portfolio. Here you can add and edit your learning goals, select topics, view available and upcoming CPD activities, add reflections and your own CPD activities. You can also view the status of your CPD for this and previous years, and download reports. When can I complete my reflections? 

Answer: Members can login and enter their reflections as they complete each session/module on the day of the Optometry Clinical Conference.

  1. Scan the QR code which will be provided in session on the day or click on this LINK. The QR code/link can be used for each session.

  2. Select the session from the dropdown menu and enter the reflection. 

  3. Click save. The reflection will be added to the activity in the members CPD portfolio. If the CPD activity does not exist in the member's CPD portfolio, it automatically adds the CPD activity and the reflection, however the activity is not verified, until the provider verifies the attendance.

POST ASSESSMENT AND SELF CHECK-IN

Do I have to complete the assessment program?

  • Optometry Australia members: You do not have to complete any of the Assessments but they will assist you to gain more CPD hours e.g. upon successfully answering at least 50% of each assessment correctly, you will be awarded with an extra 0.50 hours of CPD in addition to the 1 hour time spent viewing the presentation. Please note: No assessment questions will be made available for the keynote session.

  • NZ delegate: ODOB stipulates that you must complete the Assessment to gain your points for live presentations. Each of the live program courses has 10 Multiple Choice Questions and to access them, simply go to the Assessments menu on the Optometry Virtually Connected event site and locate the lecture or lectures. You will need to receive a 50% pass rate for each assessment completed.

  • All other delegates: You do not have to complete any of the Assessments.

How do I access the post assessment multiple choice questions for additional CPD hours?

All delegates will need to have EliteCPD available to have access to the Multiple-Choice questions for additional CPD hours.  

To access Elite CPD you will need to:

  • Click this link or copy in another browser: https://elitecpd.optometry.org.au/login/

  • Log in with your member number eg MXXXXXX 

  • Password is your member password 

  • For non-members, you will need to use your unique Delegate Id which has been sent to you via a separate email.  No password is required.
